SEATTLE DANCER was trained by Vincent O´Brien at Ballydoyle. He raced in the colours of Stavros Niarchos.
"He was one of the sick
horses in my yard last year and it was not possible to do anything with
him in the way of work. So he approached this season totally without
experience of any kind. In November it was obvious he had got over what
sickness he had. Then he began to transform and he got to be a very fine
looking horse.
In his first race at Phoenix Park there was a
bit of trouble and Seattle Dancer could not get out and finished third.
His next run in last Saturday's Derrinstown Trial at Leopardstown I put
in Ancient times to ensure a good gallop for him, at the same time both
horses taken their chance.
Ancient Times was still in front
entering the straight and his jockey Declan Gillespie kicked and pushed
his mount for home. Seattle Dancer had to come four wide and because of
that Ancient Times got quite a bit away from him.
And yet
Seattle Dancer was able to pick him up and then go three lengths clear
and win easily." Vincent O'Brien quoted in the Racing Post

"Seattle Dancer was a real good mover." Cash Asmussen
"Seattle Dancer won well at Leopradstown on Saturday and the time he recorded in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes was second best behind 1982 winner Golden Fleece." Irish Field 16/05/87

"IMPRESSIVE"
"Saturday's win was more impressive than his Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial success at Leopardstown two weeks earlier. Turning into the straight the 1-2 favourite was 5 lengths adrift of his pacemaker King's College but quickly picked up that colt two furlongs out and soon forged clear." Racing Post 25/05/87
