21/05/11 German Oaks winner CENTAINE has died

big loss for all at Schlossgut Itlingen

2 days after giving birth to a filly by SHIROCCO already named CAPICHERA, the eldest actice mare of Graf und Grafin Stauffenberg was found dead in her box. CENTAINE, one of the best fillies of her generation, was bred by Kirtlington Stud and became the first Classic Winner in the colours "champagne and bordeaux". Retired to the breeding shed she showed that she is able to produce good horses on  different distances. CLOUDY BAY (by ZILZAL) won a National Stakes over 1600m. Then CENTAINE produced her first real Stakes winner, when CLIFFROSE (by MONSUN) won in 2006 the BMW Sachsen-Preis over 2000m and was Gr.3 placed as well. The next foal CALRISSIAN (by EFISIO) became a Gr.3 winner over 1150m, but showed finally his real potential as a sprinter, after he was trained to be placed in the Swedish and Norwegian Derbies.

It is not realy surprising, that CENTAINE became a good racehorse and producer. Tracing back to WINDMILL GIRL, herself the winner of the Ribblesdale Stakes, Gr.2 and dam of two Derby winners BLAKENEY and MORSTON, her dam HI LASS won the Prix Gladiateur, Gr.3 and CENTAINE is her best daughter. The family is packed with stamina, but her sire ROYAL ACADEMY put in a lot of speed. So CENTAINE is following the sire, she is mated with. If she is mated with a sprinter, she produces fast horses, if she is mated with a stayer, the resulting offspring stays as well.
